St. John’s has long been recognised for its great historic, architectural and cultural significance. While the building is well maintained, time has taken its toll. Major restoration work was needed and has been carried out between 2006 and 2008 at a cost of $1 million. The funds raised were used for stonework restoration, extensive roof work, conservation of joinery and stained glass windows, solving damp problems, rewiring, and lighting. Although there has been an excellent response from the Toorak community and a number of private benefactors, there is still a significant shortfall and FUNDS ARE STILL REQUIRED to meet the target.
