WHAT IS SCOTTISH COUNTRY
DANCING (SCD):
Scottish Country Dancing (Set Dancing) is a dance
form
with roots stretching back hundreds of years.
Participants are grouped into sets, usually of 3, 4

or
5 couples arranged in two lines (men facing
ladies
) or in a square, and dance a sequence
of
formations using travelling and setting steps.
Everyone dances at each position in
turn
as they progress through the set.

SCD was developed so Scots could
have
FUN!!..........  And today it’s
even
more fun for everyone (not
only
the Scots)

We welcome beginners – come along
and
see just how much fun it is.

HISTORY OF SCD AT St. JOHN ’S:
The Group was started in 1967 by Elspeth Pyper
who
was one of the first registered instructors in Victoria .
What first began as a parish activity for the local
youth
, quickly grew into a hugely popular social
activity
.
She has continued leading and teaching at
St. John
’s for over forty years. Elspeth has
been
responsible for instructing many
of
today’s teachers and St. John’s is regarded
as
one of the best places to begin SCD.
Over forty years on and St. John’s is still a
strong
, respected and vibrant group within the
Scottish Dance fraternity.

Day and evening classes are held each week
and
in addition Group Socials and other events
(also attended by members of other groups)

are
held several times throughout the
year
.

We welcome beginners. Basic steps
and
dances are taught and
walked
through at each class.
Partners are not required.
