GETTING MARRIED AT ST JOHN’S TOORAK

CHECKLIST & PROCESS

 o    CONTACT THE PARISH OFFICE
To check that the church is available at the preferred date and time. At this point your wedding may be entered into the diary as a tentative booking.

o    PAY THE DEPOSIT AND CONFIRM THE BOOKING
As soon as the $250 deposit is paid, the booking will be confirmed and the date and time you have requested set aside for your wedding. The office can accept deposits in cash, by cheque, or credit card. The deposit is part of the wedding fees and is fully non refundable, even if the wedding is subsequently cancelled.

o    MEET THE CELEBRANT TO SIGN THE NOIM FORM
It is a requirement by law that all couples complete and sign a Notice of Intention to Marry (NOIM) form at least one month prior to the wedding. This form is witnessed by the celebrant who must also enter further details such as proof of identity, birth, and the end of a previous marriage (if applicable). Couples being married at St. John’s are asked to meet the parish clergy as soon as possible after confirming a booking, to complete this requirement. For most weddings at St. John’s the celebrant will be the vicar of the parish, Archdeacon Dr Bradly Billings. Brad is available very Sunday and all couples being married at St. John’s may attend a service of worship at either 8am or 10am on any Sunday, after which they may meet the celebrant and sign the NOIM form. If couples are unable to attend a service of worship on a Sunday morning, they should make alternative arrangements to meet Revd Billings at another time, by contacting him via the parish office.Couples do not need to obtain and bring the NOIM to this first meeting, the celebrant will provide this; however original birth certificates and evidence of the end of a previous marriage (if applicable) should be supplied at this first meeting.

o    BOOK IN & ATTEND A PREPARATION SESSION
Preparation sessions take place throughout the year and all couples being married at St John’s are required to attend a session of preparation prior to their wedding. Couples nominate their preference from the list of available dates supplied by the office. All enquiries regarding the preparation should be directed to Ms Gay Djumas, Marriage Ministry Coordinator, via the parish office or by email: Contact the Marriage Ministry Coordinator. At the preparation session, details regarding the wedding ceremony are discussed and a comprehensive package of resources is provided.

o    PAY THE BALANCE OF THE FEES
The remaining portion of the fees can be paid in full or by installments at any time prior to the wedding. The full amount of $1,500 should be received by the office one month prior to the date of the wedding.

o    RETURN THE WI-5 FORM TO THE OFFICE
The WI-5 (Wedding Information) Form is provided to couples at the Preparation session and is to be completed and returned to the office at the beginning of the month prior to the date of your wedding – e.g. if you are being married on March 15th your completed WI-5 form should be with us by 1st February. On this form you enter in your preferences and choices regarding music and readings etc., whether there are to be others involved such as videographers, singers and musicians etc., and also provide us with details of the witnesses for the purposes of the documentation. Click here to complete and submit the WI-5 form on line.

o    SEND A DRAFT OF THE CEREMONY BOOKLET TO THE CLERGY
All couples who are intending to produce a printed order of service for their wedding ceremony should prepare a draft of this in consultation with the clergy who will be celebrant at their wedding. Once couples have produced a draft of the order of service, it should be faxed or sent by email to the cleric directly. For most weddings at St John’s, this will be the Vicar of the parish. Contact the Vicar

 o    BOOK THE REHEARSAL
The rehearsal is booked directly with the cleric who will be celebrant, either by phone via the parish office, or by email. For most weddings at St John’s, this will be the Vicar of the parish. Contact the Vicar. The rehearsal will normally take place during the week prior to the wedding and will take 30-60mins.

 o    THE CEREMONY
The big day has finally arrived!
